Tile and Box Calculator

Metric room and tile sizes. The waste allowance covers cuts and breakage.

Floor area—
Tiles needed including waste—
Boxes to order—
Spare tiles after the job—

Keep the spares. A tile from the same batch is the only reliable match if one cracks later.

The arithmetic

Floor area = length × width. Tiles = ceil(area × (1 + waste) ÷ tile area). Boxes = ceil(tiles ÷ tiles per box). Spares are whatever the last box leaves over.

Where estimates go wrong

Measuring in feet and converting late, forgetting an alcove, and ordering exactly the calculated tile count are the common failures. Measure the widest point of the room in both directions and add every separate area.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work for wall tiles?

Yes. Enter the wall area as length × width. Subtract large openings by reducing one of the dimensions, or add a few percent to the waste allowance.

What if tiles are sold individually?

Set tiles per box to 1 and the tile count becomes the order quantity.

Should I buy all tiles at once?

Yes. Tile batches vary slightly in colour. Buying the remainder later risks a visible mismatch.
